🏨What are the only two C2-level Hyatt Place hotels in China like?

🏨Overview | Overview
The Hyatt Place Kunming South Railway Station is the first Hyatt Place in Kunming.
The hotel has just opened.
It's located right next to the West Plaza of South Railway Station.
It's a 500-meter walk to the high-speed rail station and subway.
It's a typical "train station-style" hotel,
focused on serving transit and business travelers.

What really sparked discussion was:
It's classified as C2 in the Hyatt system.
The Grand Hyatt Kunming in the same city is also only C2.
This caused considerable controversy and discussion when its classification was first revealed.
There are only a handful of Hyatt Place hotels nationwide that can be rated C2.
With this in mind,
we're here to review the hotel right after it opened and see how it earned this rating.

🛏Rooms | In Room
The hotel features 315 guest rooms and suites,
ranging in size from 28 to 60 square meters.
Most rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows,
offering views of Bailongtan Park or the city skyline. Rooms generally feature sofa beds, making them quite suitable for families and large groups.

In addition to the room we stayed in, we also toured all the other room types.
The layout of the Lake View Family Suite was a bit confusing.
The room with the coffee table and chairs turned out to be a dark room with almost no natural light, which diminished the experience.
In comparison, the corner one-bedroom Lake View Suite was much more pleasant, with much better lighting and views.
And it was the only room type with a bathtub.

The amenities were familiar Hyatt Place style, with a 55-inch TV, minibar, safe, and garment steamer, ensuring both sleep and practicality.
The overall decor was simple, with touches of local Yunnan elements.

🍽 Dining | Dining
The third floor is Jiawei Restaurant, serving a buffet breakfast and an all-day à la carte menu.
Although it's a Jiaxuan brand,
the Hyatt's offerings are still up to par.
The breakfast selection isn't spectacular, but it has everything you need.

The H Bar on the first floor serves light meals and drinks throughout the day, offering a more casual and relaxed atmosphere. I was surprised by the coffee prices, which were more affordable than I expected. For a hotel near a high-speed rail station, this is a decent offering.

🧘🏻♂️ Facilities | Facilities
This was a bit disappointing. The 24-hour gym and self-service laundry are both located on the 40th floor. The laundry room is located in the linen room on this floor, and even the signage hasn't been changed. There's only a printed laundry sign, which looks like a last-minute addition. I almost thought I was in the wrong place. The gym is even more haphazard. It was simply converted from a suite, with no changes to the hardware, save for a few treadmills and other equipment. Even after the subsequent renovation, the area is too small to support a proper gym. Honestly, the facilities are even worse than those of some budget hotels.

🔖Summary | Conclusion
From an overall experience perspective,
the Hyatt Place Kunming South Station's biggest selling points are clear:
it's new, close to the high-speed rail station, and reasonably priced.
However, it's far from the city center,
there's nothing much to do around Kunming South Station, and
it's only a good place for a short stopover.
As a rare C2-level Hyatt Place in China,
its presence makes the Grand Hyatt Kunming even more cost-effective.
