Xuedou Mountain is a major 5A scenic area and Buddhist mountain in China. It houses the world's tallest bronze seated Maitreya statue (56.74m), as well as other no less impressive sights, such as Qianzhangyan Waterfall and Maitreya Altar, where the Sixth World Buddhist Forum has held. Whether a worshiper or a tourist, this place has something to offer to each and every visitor.
🚘 Transportation:
The best way to get there from Ningbo is to take a taxi. It's quite far (it takes about 1.5 hours to get there), but it's the best option as public transportation to this area isn't so convenient.
If you're traveling from another city and want to get here directly, it is best to take a train to Xikou, which is the town where the scenic area is located.
📍 Maitreya Altar:
At the entrance to the scenic area (distribution center) is Maitreya Altar, a golden palace (temple) on top of a great dome. The altar's exterior lightning design received the 1st Prize of the China Lightning Award in 2022. The design reflects a blend of traditional Buddhist aesthetics and modern architectural innovation.
📍 Open-air Maitreya (bronze statue):
From the place where the Altar is, there are buses that can take you up the mountain (snake road) to the Open-air Maitreya attraction for no additional cost.
📍 Qianzhangyan Waterfall:
In front of Open-air Maitreya is Qianzhangyan Waterfall. There is a platform right above the waterfall where you can take a peak of the waterfall below your feet. But to fully appreciate it, it's necessary to take the cablecar. Once down in the valley you can visit several different waterfalls, including Qianzhangyan. The only problem is that it's quite a long walk and there is no exit below, so you will have to climb up again by cablecar to exit the attraction.
