Zhouzhuang is an ancient water town that can be visited on a day trip from Shanghai or Suzhou. It is a tourist destination that has been recognized as a national 5A-level tourist scenic area and is known as the "number one water town in China."
Zhouzhuang has a history of over 900 years and is said to have had its current form as early as 1086.
Typical of a water town, traditional white-walled houses with tiled roofs line the riverside.
Stepping inside from the road along the river, you will find shops facing each other across a narrow passageway. There are restaurants, cafes, Chinese teahouses, souvenir shops, and more, so you will never get bored just walking around. It was also fun to eat Zhouzhuang's unique sweets as I walked.
I also tried a rowboat. It was very tasteful to watch the town from the boat!
