Zhouzhuang for One: Enjoying the Tranquility of the Jiangnan Water Village 🌿

This ancient town in Kunshan, Jiangsu, known as "China's No. 1 Water Village," is a place I've always wanted to visit since coming to Suzhou.

First sight of Zhouzhuang 🏘️

We arrived early, and the ancient town was still quiet. Low, white houses lined the streets, and waterways flowed quietly. Without the guidance of a guide or the noise of groups, there were few visitors. I strolled slowly and leisurely through this ancient Jiangnan town with 900 years of history.

The Rhythm of a Water Village 🌊

Staying by the Twin Bridges was the most tranquil moment of our trip. Shide Bridge and Yong'an Bridge intertwine like a key, their reflections reflected in the water. The boatman's gentle oars glided across the water, leaving behind a trail of ripples that were truly beautiful. Sitting on the stone steps by the shore, listening to the sound of the water and the distant cries of vendors, I felt like I was in another world, and I was captivated by the elegance and refinement of the Suzhou people.

Of course, we enjoyed some authentic snacks at a Zhouzhuang shop, rested for a while, and then continued our walk.

A Solitary Hall 🏛️

This mansion of a wealthy Ming Dynasty merchant features intricate wood carvings and a meticulously designed layout. Sunlight streams down on the bluestone floor. Unhurried and uninterrupted, you can take your time to peruse each plaque.

Zhouzhuang is not only a representative example of Jiangnan's water towns, but also a tranquil haven for solo travelers. Here, there's no need for a tight schedule; simply walk quietly, take your time, and let your heart drift with the water.

Why not plan a trip to Zhouzhuang? It's just the right amount for a solo experience.
