Cape Shionomisaki - the southernmost cape of Honshu

Located at the southernmost tip of Kushimoto Town in Higashimuro District, Wakayama Prefecture, Cape Shionomisaki is known as the southernmost cape on Honshu Island. Originally an island, it is believed to have become connected to Honshu Island through the transport and sedimentation of coastal currents.

From the cape, you can view the vast Pacific Ocean and see the flow of the Kuroshio Current with the naked eye.

Famous attractions include the Shionomisaki Lighthouse, one of Japan's most famous lighthouses, the Shionomisaki Sightseeing Tower, an observation tower, and Shiomisaki Shrine, where prayers for bountiful catches are made.

Access

Take the Kushimoto Town Community Bus from Kushimoto Station on the JR Kisei Main Line for 15 minutes and get off at the "Shionomisaki Lighthouse" stop.
