Toji Temple, also known as Kyoogokokuji Temple, is the head temple of the Toji Shingon sect. In 1994, it was listed as a World Heritage Site as part of the "Cultural Properties of Ancient Kyoto". The five-story pagoda in the temple is the tallest five-story pagoda in Japan. The five-story pagoda is considered the symbol of Kyoto. At 54.8 meters high, it is known as the tallest wooden tower in Japan.
