The official name is "Shiunzan Chohoji Temple." It is affectionately known as "Rokkakudo" because the main hall is hexagonal.
It is said to have been founded by Prince Shotoku, and is also known as the birthplace of ikebana, as the head priest of the Ikenobo school of flower arranging has served as the chief priest.
Located in the center of Kyoto and surrounded by skyscrapers, the air feels strangely different when you pass through the mountain gate, and it is a place where you can take a breather in the city.
In the precincts, there are the 16 arhat statues with soft expressions and a cute Jizo statue. Swans were swimming gracefully in the pond.
At the donation office (shop), you can get pigeon fortunes with a motif of pigeons strolling around the precincts, love fortunes named after the willow of matchmaking, and amulets made from ginkgo nuts from the ginkgo trees in the precincts. You can also get a goshuin here.
From the Starbucks Coffee (Kyoto Karasuma Rokkaku branch) across the street, you can see the cherry blossoms in the temple grounds through the large glass.
