Rokuharamitsu-ji Temple has appeared on television and in novels as the base of the Taira clan, and is also the 17th temple of the Thirty-Three Temples of the Western Provinces.
It is also famous as the temple that enshrines the statue of Kuya Shonin, from whose mouth a Buddha emerges. The statue is housed on the second floor of the newly opened Reiwakan building to the west of the main hall.
