
Meibei Ancient Village is located on the south side of the town center of Wenbei Town, Qingyuan District, Ji'an City, 28 kilometers away from the central urban area of Ji'an City. It covers an area of 1 square kilometer. It is bounded by Dongtou Zhenjie Archway in the east, Qingdong Highway in the south, Dizang Pavilion (Yangyuan Academy) in the west, and Liang Shijie's Tomb in the north.
Meibei Ancient Village is an ancient village of the Jiangyou ethnic group. There are 367 well-preserved buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties in the village, including houses, ancestral halls, academies, charity granaries, archways, pavilions, shops, docks, churches, and old revolutionary residences.
The majority of Meibei's residential buildings date back to the Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, with a small number of modern structures scattered around the village's east, south, west, and north. While relatively concentrated, the residential buildings in Meibei Ancient Village are typical Gan-style architecture, characterized by gray bricks and a solemn, elegant, and simple, practical style, yet possessing distinct characteristics.
Boasting a subtropical humid monsoon climate, the ancient village of Mibei is nestled between Xiangfeng Mountain to the east, Xiangling Mountain to the west, Yaoshan Mountain to the south, and the Fushui River to the north. It is a picturesque natural landscape surrounded by mountains and water, making it a perfect place for travel in all seasons.
Meibei Ancient Village boasts 582 residential structures, 367 Ming and Qing dynasty buildings, five ancient ancestral halls, several family ancestral halls, four ancient academies, one ancient temple, one ancient pavilion, three ancient memorial archways, and over 900 meters of ancient streets. The door lintels, caissons, window lattices, doorposts, screen walls, and gables of these ancient buildings are decorated with calligraphy, paintings, or carvings, each with its own unique style and content, reflecting the styles of different eras and the ideals of their respective owners.
The ancient village of Meibei has preserved many cultural relics protection units at the Jiangxi Provincial and Ji'an Municipal levels, including the site of the "February 7th" Conference, the former headquarters of the Red Fourth Army, the former sites of the Southwest Jiangxi Soviet Government and the Jiangxi Provincial Soviet Government, Mao Zedong's former residence, Zhu De's former residence, and Zengshan's former residence.
