Kinkakuji Temple, also known as
"Golden Pavilion"
is a Zen Buddhist temple of the Rinzai sect
located in the northern part of Kyoto
and is one of the most popular tourist attractions
in Japan, and has been registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site
The highlight is the golden pavilion located by the pond
The original pavilion was built to be the residence of the Shogun
After the Shogun died, it was turned into a temple
The pavilion was damaged by fire several times
The current form has been renovated
There are 3 floors in total, the top 2 floors are covered with
gold leaf until they are bright gold, while the lower floor is still
in the color of wood and the walls are covered with white in the style of Zen temples
