Nichiren temple

#summervacay

Myojōji is the head temple of the Nichiren sect in Japan’s Hokuriku region, located on the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture—quite the serene contrast to Tokyo's temples. Founded in 1294 by Nichizo, a direct disciple of Nichiren—Japan’s influential Buddhist reformer . The sprawling temple complex on a hillside includes numerous 17th-century buildings, preserved intact due to lack of major fires . The standout five-storied pagoda (built 1618, ~34–35 m tall) is one of the few in Japan featuring the rare tochibuki roof .
