Hakuryuen is located in the Kurama and Kibune area of Kyoto. It is open to the public only during the spring and autumn seasons each year. Spanning approximately 15,000 square feet, this expansive garden harmoniously blends with nature, showcasing a stunning Japanese-style landscape. In the past, the garden limited daily visitors to just 100 people, making it one of Kyoto's lesser-known yet unique gardens.
Within the garden, there is a torii gate and shrines dedicated to the gods of longevity, "Shirahige Daijin," and the god of business prosperity, "Hachidai Ryuo." Hakuryuen is renowned for its meticulously maintained Japanese garden and the seasonal changes in its natural scenery. Special openings are held during the spring and autumn seasons.
Admission fees for November are ¥2,000, while for October and December, they are ¥1,600. Though the price is relatively high and reservations are limited, the quality of the experience, especially during the autumn foliage season, is exceptional, making it a true hidden gem.
How to get there: Take the Eizan Electric Railway to "Ninose" Station on the Eizan Line, and walk approximately 7 minutes to reach the garden.
