When it comes to Kyoto, whether it’s a first-time visit to Japan or a classic revisit, “Chibon Torii” is almost a must-see photo spot! Every time I go, I can't help but meet up with my friends again, because I'll feel the full Japanese spirit through thousands of bright red torii gates, and I'll have new discoveries every time I take a picture👍🏻
🌸Itinerary Highlights Revealed:
Chibon Torii is located inside the famous Inari Shrine (Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine), where there is the most shocking shrine torii tunnel in Kyoto, the whole road seems to enter another space, and the shrine itself is open 24 hours a year.
✨Essential itinerary for Chibon Torii:
📷 Must-see Torii Tunnel
Walking into the Chibon Torii, you will see red arches lined up densely, which is super shocking. Less crowded in the morning or dusk, it is recommended to avoid noon and peak hours of tour groups, will photograph a cleaner background.
🦊Explore the mysterious Inari Shrine
The guardian of Inari Shrine is a fox. Remember to pay attention to the many cute fox statues inside and outside the shrine. There are many stairs to the shrine. It is recommended to wear good hiking shoes. It is not so hard to walk to the top!
🌰Special snack recommendations
Near the foot of the shrine mountain, there are stalls selling popular fried tofu skewers (tofu field fun), Japanese glutinous rice dumplings and matcha ice cream, many of which are local handicrafts.
🗺️ Practical information:
Address: Fukakusa Yabuunouchicho, Fushimi Ward, Kyoto, 68, 612-0882 Japan
Opening hours: Open all day year round (you can feel the different atmosphere both day and night)
Access: Take the JR Nara Line and get off at “Inari Station”; or take the Keihan Electric Railway to “Fushimi Inari Station” and walk for about 5 minutes
Tips to add:
- In case of rainy weather inside the torii is quite comfortable and absolutely unaffected by the weather
- There are many washrooms within the shrine area, which is very convenient
- It is recommended to bring water, not much resupply along the way
- Avoid the holiday/weekend crowds for quieter photos
Conclusion:
Every time I feel the solemn atmosphere of a Kyoto temple, walking through the red torii is a baptism of the mind. Find your own backlight check-in angle, there must be unexpected memories 🥰
