Kyoto
˗ˏˋ Ryoanji Templeˎˊ˗
Ryoanji Temple has been designated a World Heritage Site.
Built during the Muromachi period, when Zen culture flourished, Ryoanji Temple is filled with attractions, including its world-famous rock garden and tsukubai (water basin), created in accordance with the Zen ethos.
The spirit of Zen is to discipline oneself, be grateful for all things, eliminate waste, and reexamine one's way of life.
The spacious grounds also include a strolling garden with a pond, where you can enjoy a stroll amidst lush greenery.
I believe that experiencing traditional Japanese culture and nature and calming one's mind is a unique way to spend time in Kyoto. 😌💭
✎Rock Garden
This typical dry landscape garden features 15 rocks arranged in a five-two-three-two-three pattern from the east, creating a space that embodies the pinnacle of Zen beauty.
✎ Tsukubai (Water Basin)
I only know contentment.
This symbolizes the spirit of contentment, as taught by Buddha: "He who is content is rich even though he is poor; he who is not content is poor even though he is rich." This stylized representation of the essence of Buddhism embodies this principle, and is also connected to the spirit of the tea ceremony.
✎ Kyoyochi Pond
Enjoy the diverse beauty of nature, from cherry blossoms in spring, water lilies in summer, autumn leaves in fall, and a blanket of snow in winter.
There are also many other attractions, including sliding door paintings and Japan's oldest Wabisuke camellia.
