Nijo Castle, built by Tokugawa Ieyasu for his Kyoto residence, is a symbol of Japanese history and power. Shoes must be removed to enter the interior, and the "weeping floor" (sounding floor) sound heard with each step in the hallways was particularly impressive. Exhibition guides and explanations are provided in both English and Japanese, making them easy to understand for international visitors. Paintings and decorations in each room vividly capture the atmosphere of Japan's feudal era, and the gold-leafed folding screens are particularly beautiful.
