📍Ninenzaka (二年坂) Visit Review
Ninenzaka is a traditional street leading from Gion to Kiyomizu-dera Temple. It's a classic Kyoto street, with its stone steps and wooden buildings. The street itself is short, but its gentle slope makes for a delightful stroll, lined with cafes, souvenir shops, and tea houses renovated from old houses. The wooden exterior walls and noren (Japanese-style curtains) create a refined atmosphere, truly capturing the traditional beauty of Kyoto. 🏮
The atmosphere changes significantly depending on the time of day. Mornings are relatively quiet, making for a quiet stroll, while afternoons bring a lively atmosphere with the influx of tourists. Nearby are the famous Yatsuhashi confectionery shops, traditional tea cafes, and yukata experience shops, offering shopping and simple experiences. Numerous photo spots along the way made for excellent photo opportunities, and the view looking back as you ascend towards Kiyomizu-dera Temple was particularly striking. 📷🌿
Although it's a short stretch overall, this is one of the streets where you can most strongly experience the unique atmosphere of Kyoto. However, the cobblestone road can be slippery on rainy days, so be careful. Connecting it with the nearby Sannenzaka makes for a more fulfilling walk. ☕👘
