If you're tired of the hustle and bustle of Kyoto, try driving out of the city for a day.
Experience the simplicity of the "Thatched-Roof Village" in Miyama.
Following this, head to the romantic fishing village of Ine, located by the Sea of Japan. 💙
---
☀️ Morning — Depart from Kyoto 🚗
Start the day around 8:00 AM.
Pick up your rental car from within Kyoto. Then drive to Miyama Village (美山町), which takes about 1.5–2 hours. 🗺️
The scenery along the way is stunning, with mountains, forests, and small streams all along the way. 🌲🍃
I recommend listening to some soft Japanese music while driving—it feels like you're in an anime. 🎶 It had just snowed when we went, and it was so beautiful.
---
🌾 Afternoon—Walk around Miyama's Thatched-roof Village, Kayabuki no Sato.
📍 Kayabuki no Sato (かやぶきの里)
A small village nestled in the valley, filled with traditional Japanese thatched-roof houses. 🏠✨
It's very peaceful, giving you a truly authentic feel of old Japan.
I recommend strolling around the village, taking photos of the rice fields, and even visiting the small museum about the locals' way of life. 🥰
---
🌿 Afternoon—Continue on to Ine Fishing Village (伊根の舟屋).
Continue driving north. It takes about 1.5 hours to reach Ine Village. 🛶
📍 Ine no Funaya (舟屋の里伊根)
A seaside village where every house has a boat under it, a unique feature of this area. 🌊
The atmosphere is peaceful, with deep blue water and rows of wooden houses like a painting. 🎨
💡 Recommended activities:
Take an Ine Bay Boat Cruise to see the village from the sea. 🛥️
Sip coffee and enjoy the view at Funaya Coffee & Bread, a seaside cafe. ☕🌤️
Stroll along the waterfront and take photos in the soft afternoon light—so romantic! 💞
---
🌇 Evening—Drive back to Kyoto, enjoying the sunset.
Around 4:30 PM, start the drive back to Kyoto (about 2 hours). 🚗
The evening light as you pass through the mountains and small villages is stunning. 🌄
Arriving in the city around 6:30–7:00 PM, return the car, and stop for some hot ramen to cap off the day.
