📍Must-Visit in Lanzhou: The Iconic Zhongshan Bridge | First Bridge Over the Yellow River

Standing on this historic iron bridge with the mighty Yellow River rushing below and White Pagoda Mountain (Baita Shan) rising ahead, I felt like I’d stepped back in time 100 years—yet surrounded by the lively energy of modern Lanzhou.

✨Built in 1909 by German engineers and Chinese craftsmen, Zhongshan Bridge is not only the first permanent bridge across the Yellow River, but also a landmark of Lanzhou’s history and industrial charm. Its riveted steel structure gives off a distinctly vintage, cinematic vibe—perfect for photography lovers!

📸 Best photo spots:
✅ The “First Bridge Over the Yellow River” stone stele at the south end
✅ Center of the bridge with White Pagoda Mountain in the background
✅ North end showing off the beautiful steel framework (amazing light and shadow!)

🌙 Nighttime is the real highlight!
As soon as the sun sets, the bridge is lit with warm golden lights, casting a shimmering reflection across the Yellow River. It looks like a golden dragon winding through the city. On one side, the glimmering lights of the riverside promenade; on the other, the silhouette of White Pagoda Mountain—it’s absolutely magical and one of the best spots for night views in Lanzhou.

🧭 Tips for visiting:
• Free entry and open all day (and night!)
• Take Metro Line 1 to Xiguan Station and walk 5 minutes
• Want panoramic city views? Hike up White Pagoda Mountain (takes ~30 minutes). Note: entrance closes at 9:30 PM.
• Visit in the day to feel the historical atmosphere, and come back at night for the dreamy lights!
