Mont Saint Michel: A Dreamy Village Floating on Water

At first glance, it takes your breath away. Mont Saint-Michel is not just a tourist destination; it’s a fairytale come to life.

We began our journey from Paris, taking a combination of train and bus, which took about 4–5 hours to reach this small village in the middle of the water, seemingly straight out of the Middle Ages. Mont Saint-Michel is located on a rocky island off the coast of Normandy. In the past, you had to wait for the tide to recede to cross over, but now there’s a bridge, though the magical feeling remains unchanged.

🧭 Once inside the village, you’ll find narrow cobblestone alleys, charming pastry shops, wooden house-style hostels, and souvenir shops with a medieval vibe.

🏞 The highlight is climbing to the top of Abbaye du Mont-Saint-Michel, an ancient abbey dating back to the 8th century. From the summit, you can see small houses layered below and a vast, breathtaking view of the sea.

🌅 If you visit in the evening or stay overnight, you’ll witness the sunset reflecting on the receding tide—a sight so stunning it leaves you speechless.

🍴 Before heading back, don’t miss trying the famous fluffy omelette (Omelette de la Mère Poulard). While the taste might not live up to its legendary reputation (just being honest 😅), it’s an experience worth having at least once.
