Guizhou Hidden Gems | Miao Village Rice Threshing Experience and Accidentally Entering the Twilight Forest

Who still wants to squeeze into crowded places?! At the end of September in Qiandongnan, Guizhou hides the most treasured autumn secret spots!

Just got back from Guizhou with my bestie and can’t wait to share this magical place—Baiyan Village and Wudong Miao Village deep in Leigong Mountain. Few people, beautiful scenery, mist swirling, and you can experience the Miao autumn harvest. Every shot looks like a blockbuster!

✨ Baiyan Village: Terraced Fields and Sea of Clouds, a True Fairyland

• Best Viewing Time: You must get up early! Arrive at the village entrance viewing platform around 5 a.m. to catch a sunrise sea of clouds. The sunlight shining on the layered terraces is breathtaking!

• Photo Spots: The small hill opposite the village offers a panoramic view of the terraces. A drone and telephoto lens are must-haves. The stilted buildings shrouded in mist look like a fairyland.

• Accommodation Recommendation: The village has “Sister Hua’s Homestay” and “Muyunjian.” Open the window to see the terraces, and you can stargaze at night~

🌾 Wudong Miao Village: Small Bridges and Flowing Water, Perfect Rice Threshing Experience!

• Special Experience: Late September is rice harvest season. We joined the villagers in the fields to thresh rice! Using traditional grain buckets to thresh, it’s tiring but super fun, giving a real feel of Miao farming culture.

• Village Atmosphere: Three streams run through the village, and a 200-year-old water mill is still in use. The Wind and Rain Bridge and Lusheng Square are very rustic, with no commercialization at all, like stepping into the world of Spirited Away!

• Hidden Gem: There’s a “Chu Ye Bookstore” in the village that only sells books related to Guizhou. Order a coffee, read, or daydream, stealing a peaceful moment~ Nearby, the Xiangshuiyan Waterfall awaits your discovery!

🚗 Practical Tips (Save these!)

• Transportation: It’s recommended to self-drive from Kaili South Station. First go to Baiyan Village (about 1 hour), then to Wudong Miao Village (6 km apart, good roads but many curves, drive carefully).

• Tickets: Free! Both villages do not charge admission, truly pristine and natural~

• Food: The sour soup fish and farmhouse dishes at “Sister Hua’s Homestay” in Baiyan Village are amazing! The farmhouse dishes at Wunian Mountain Residence are unforgettable too. Expect to spend 50+ RMB per person to eat your fill; Wudong Miao Village has no restaurants, so bring snacks or ask locals to cook noodles (10 RMB/bowl).

• Outfit Suggestions: Light-colored dresses + straw hats look great with the rice fields! Remember to wear comfortable shoes as the village paths are stone slabs.

📌 Final Tips

Late September to early October is the golden rice harvest period. The threshing experience may last until mid-October, so hurry if you want to go! This place is much quieter than Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village, perfect for those who want to avoid crowds and have a deep cultural experience~
