From Lijiang Old Town, take a taxi to the Golden Pagoda Tourist Area. Just 15 minutes later, you'll pass the entrance and see a massive golden seated Maitreya Buddha.
The golden seated Maitreya Buddha, surrounded by traditional Chinese architecture and Tibetan mani wheels, creates a unique sight all on its own.
The contrast with the blue skies of the highlands makes for a particularly photogenic setting.
The area is quite large, so be sure to bring a parasol and offer a prayer to the Maitreya Buddha.
The surrounding villages are traditional clan villages, perfect for a quiet stroll, so exploring them while you're there is even more enjoyable.
