Half-Day Tour of São Jorge Castle in Lisbon

🏰 Castles are a common attraction in many European countries. If you've visited several, you might feel they start to look similar or find yourself comparing them. However, if I have the time, I always love to visit each country's castles💕 to see where their royal families once lived😆.

📍 São Jorge Castle is a medieval castle in Lisbon, located on high ground. The castle covers a large area, offering spectacular panoramic views of the entire Lisbon region from various angles!

The castle has endured multiple earthquakes, including severe damage during the 1755 Lisbon earthquake. It underwent extensive restoration afterward and gradually became one of Lisbon's main attractions and tourist hotspots!

The São Jorge Castle we see today may not have a lavish appearance, but it exudes a sense of historical depth and resilience. Here, you can admire medieval Portuguese castle features such as windows, walls, corridors, and cannons. You can also capture stunning photos📷 from different perspectives. There's even a grassy area outside the castle where a group of peacocks🦚 roam!

Lisbon has many viewpoints, but personally, I find the panoramic view of Lisbon from São Jorge Castle the most breathtaking. The expansive view allows you to overlook the entire city from above🥰, and in the distance, you can spot the 25th of April Bridge and the Christ the King statue!

📍 São Jorge Castle (Castelo de São Jorge)
Address: R. de Santa Cruz do Castelo, 1100-129 Lisboa
💰 General admission is €15. However, we visited for free with the Lisbon City Card, which also allowed us to skip the ticket line. With the Lisbon City Card, you simply exchange your ticket at a separate counter with no queue. During peak seasons, I highly recommend getting the Lisbon City Card—it pays for itself if you visit just three attractions in a day🤭.
