Pingqiao Stone Dam

Pingqiao Stone Dam is located about 1.5 km southeast of Pingqiao Village, Tianmuhu Town, Liyang City, Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province. It is located between two mountains and has a stone arch dam, known as Pingqiao Stone Dam. It is the largest non-reinforced concrete reservoir dam in China and the largest stone arch dam in Asia.

Pingqiao Stone Dam was built from 1974 to 1979, taking 5 years to complete. It is 122 meters wide and 24 meters high, made of countless neat rectangular stones, divided into two side arches, east and west. It is connected and supported by a central pier and two side piers, and the bottom of the dam is deeply rooted in the exposed brown rock at the foot of the mountain. The overall shape is unique, and the construction technology is superb. During the flood season, the mountain water rushes in and pours down from the overflow hole, forming a waterfall 40 meters wide and more than 20 meters high. The scene is reminiscent of the poem: "The waterfall falls straight down three thousand feet, as if the Milky Way is falling from the sky." It is a sight that makes people linger. In addition, it also has the functions of flood control, drought resistance, farmland irrigation, and hydropower generation. Now, its unique charm attracts more and more tourists to explore its true face. Especially in summer, after heavy rain, you can see the beautiful waterfall.

Now, self-driving tours are becoming more and more popular. This is a very popular classic recently. Due to the large number of people, the scenic area has specially prepared a parking lot and arranged a shuttle bus. It is very convenient to take the shuttle bus to the stone dam. The parking fee is not expensive, and the shuttle bus and scenic spot are free.
