As dusk falls, I slowly walk along the banks of the Thames River. The setting sun hangs just behind Tower Bridge, casting the two Gothic towers in a warm golden hue, and the bridge’s silhouette looks especially majestic against the backlight. The river’s surface is broken into countless shimmering golden flakes by the afterglow, gently flowing eastward with the ebbing tide.
Shadows of people appear on the riverside walkway. Men in suits loosen their ties and walk briskly, while a few young women gather around a street performer taking photos—an elderly man playing guitar, singing "Wonderwall," with a few coins scattered in his guitar case. His voice drifts by, carrying the unique tenderness of twilight. On a bench, an elderly couple snuggle close, their silver hair sparkling in the sunset light. They quietly watch the river, their clasped hands resting on their knees like two trees growing side by side for many years.
The bars on the South Bank begin to glow with warm yellow lights, and the outdoor seats fill with people finishing work. The clinking of glasses mixed with laughter floats through the air, mingling with the malt aroma of beer. A girl in a red dress leans alone against the railing, holding up her phone to show someone far away the changing colors of the sky. Her eyelashes catch the golden light as she speaks, and she seems to be glowing.
Not far away, a small dog runs happily by, its collar bells jingling, with an elderly owner following slowly behind on a leash. The dog suddenly stops, curiously sniffing the guitarist’s case, and when gently called back by its owner, it still looks back once more.
At this moment, Tower Bridge slowly opens to let a white cruise ship pass. The raised bridge looks like a giant bird spreading its wings, and the mechanical precision of the movement appears so elegant in the twilight. As the cruise ship sounds its horn while passing through, the people on deck wave to the shore, and strangers smile and wave back.
As the sky gradually turns to the blue hour, the city lights come on one by one. I continue walking forward, hearing the guitarist switch to a new song—"Your Song." The Thames is especially calm before nightfall, carrying all the stories of the day quietly flowing toward the distance...
