A fascinating glimpse at the origins of LA

El Pueblo de Los Angeles historical monument is the oldest part of the city of Los Angeles and was it’s heart during Mexican, Spanish and early American rule. Directly opposite Union Station in downtown the area is a state monument and designated historic place. The area is made up of large plazas surrounded by buildings dating back to 1800, there are small streets radiating off them selling all kinds of food, gifts and clothes. There are beautiful flowers, trees and cactai lining the streets and it makes you feel like you’re a whole world away from the bustle of a modern American city.
It’s a great place to take your time and explore the details of these buildings, they are well preserved and many have pieces of art or murals that give fascinating details of the areas history.
It is one of my favourite places for food in Los Angeles with the ability to mix snacks from street vendors with flavorful meals from the many cafes and restaurants on the streets.
If you come you have to try the churros and snowcones, the best I’ve had by far!
