Lucerne is one of Switzerland’s most picturesque cities, blending medieval charm with stunning alpine scenery. Sitting on the shores of Lake Lucerne and framed by mountains like Pilatus and Rigi, it feels both lively and peaceful. I loved walking across the Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrücke), with its colorful paintings and iconic water tower — it’s the city’s postcard symbol.
The Old Town is full of cobblestone streets, painted facades, and lively squares, perfect for exploring at a slow pace. A lake cruise offers unforgettable views of the mountains reflected in the water, while day trips to Mount Pilatus or Mount Rigi add an adventurous touch.
Tips: Lucerne is compact and walkable, so you don’t need much transport inside the city. Buy a Swiss Travel Pass if you plan to take trains, boats, or mountain cable cars in the region. Try local specialties like Luzerner Chügelipastete (a veal and mushroom pastry) or classic Swiss fondue.
📍 Location: Central Switzerland
🕒 Best Time to Visit: May–September for lake cruises and hiking, December for Christmas markets and winter scenery
