3 Days in Luzhou | The Perfect Way to Unlock This Hidden Gem in Southern Sichuan✨

Hey guys! I recently visited Luzhou, this little city in southern Sichuan, and it totally blew me away! During my three-day, two-night trip, I not only immersed myself in its rich history but also indulged in so much delicious food that I could barely walk. Now I can't wait to share this guide with you👇

Itinerary

Day 1: Luzhou Laojiao Tourist Area ➡️ Zhangba Longan Forest ➡️ Luzhou Night Market
Morning: Head to Luzhou Laojiao Tourist Area and step into the 1573 National Treasure Cellar Complex. You'll instantly be surrounded by the aroma of liquor that's been brewing for over 400 years. Watch the liquor-making process up close and even get a chance to taste the raw liquor, experiencing the charm of Luzhou Laojiao, the "originator of strong-aroma liquor." It's intoxicating in every sense!

Noon: Find a small restaurant near the scenic area and try Luzhou white cake—soft, sweet, and fluffy. Pair it with Hejiang tofu pudding dipped in spicy sauce for a truly satisfying meal.

Afternoon: Stroll through Zhangba Longan Forest. The lush, ten-mile-long forest is like a natural oxygen bar. Rent a bike and ride along the riverbank—it's pure bliss.

Evening: Visit the Luzhou Night Market, where you'll find a dazzling array of local delicacies like Gulin spicy chicken, grilled fish slices, and roasted brain flowers. Soak up the lively atmosphere!

Day 2: Yaoba Ancient Town ➡️ Huangjing Old Forest
Morning: Travel to Yaoba Ancient Town, where cobblestone streets and traditional wooden architecture showcase the charm of southern Sichuan. Don’t miss Dahong Rice Shop and Wang Chaowen’s former residence, and browse the unique little shops for souvenirs.

Noon: Enjoy an authentic bowl of red-braised mutton in the ancient town. The tender, skin-on mutton is stewed to perfection in a rich, flavorful broth—so good you’ll want two bowls of rice with it!

Afternoon: Venture into Huangjing Old Forest, a pristine wilderness. The eight-tiered Bajiedong Waterfall is breathtaking, with mist swirling around the cascading falls. You can also splash around in the kilometer-long shallow stream and get close to nature.

Evening: Stay in Gulin County and explore the local night market. Try charcoal-grilled Huangba (glutinous rice cake) and sour-spicy noodles to experience the town’s nightlife.

Day 3: Taiping Ancient Town ➡️ Return Home
Morning: Visit Taiping Ancient Town, which boasts not only beautiful landscapes and quaint architecture but also significant Red Culture heritage. Tour the Four Crossings of Chishui Memorial Hall to learn about this pivotal historical event. Standing by the Chishui River, you’ll feel the blend of history and modernity.

Noon: Savor a bowl of Gulin handmade noodles in the ancient town. The smooth, chewy noodles topped with savory minced meat are simple yet delicious.

Afternoon: Wrap up your trip and head home with a heart full of wonderful memories.
