Boats in the Maldives: Should You Take a Ferry or a Speedboat?

#surfing Getting around the #maldives isn’t just about where you’re going—it’s about how you get there. Choosing the right boat can completely change your experience. #postandearn

I organized my transfers with Trip.com, which made it easy to compare options and plan my route.

🛳️ Public Ferries – These are the cheapest way to move between islands, costing just a few dollars. They’re perfect for travelers with more time and a tight budget. The downside? They’re slow, run on limited schedules, and often don’t connect to resort islands.

🚤 Speedboats – If you’re short on time, speedboats are the way to go. They’re much faster, taking 30–90 minutes for routes that would take hours by ferry. Prices start around $20–50 USD for local islands but can go higher for private transfers.

For me, speedboats were worth the extra cost—they let me maximize my time snorkeling, exploring, and relaxing. Book your transfers in advance with Trip.com to make sure your island-hopping is smooth and stress-free.
