The A-Ma Temple in Macau is located on the west hillside of A-Ma Mountain on the Macau Peninsula. The founding year of A-Ma Temple has not been determined yet. Its earliest history can be traced back to the Ming Dynasty. However, after continuous renovation and expansion, the current building is no longer just a religious place, but also one of Macau’s important historical and cultural heritages.
The A-Ma Temple is mainly composed of the entrance gate, archway, main hall, Hongren Hall, Guanyin Pavilion and Zhengjue Zen Temple. Although each building is small and simple, it can fully integrate into nature and display the traditional temple elements of southern China. The interior of the temple is beautifully decorated with various traditional cultural artworks and decorations, including carvings, paintings, and gold and silver utensils.
The main deity of the A-Ma Temple is Mazu, the Queen of Heaven. Every year from the 23rd to the 28th day of the third lunar month, the A-Ma Temple holds a grand birthday celebration for the Queen of Heaven, attracting a large number of believers and tourists to worship and visit.
