🇲🇴 Discover a Different Side of Macau: A Hidden Gem for Hiking at Coloane Country Park. Enjoy scenic mountain trails, ocean views, and a delicious egg tart for a laid-back vibe!
Macau is often associated with its glamorous casinos, which tend to get crowded after 11 AM. This makes early mornings perfect for a peaceful city walk. After researching hiking routes in Macau, I found Coloane Island highly recommended. It offers mountains, beaches, stone paths, and even a panda pavilion and wildlife park. So, I decided to go for it!
The starting point of this hike is Seac Pai Van Park, a small attraction that includes the Giant Panda Pavilion, which is free to enter. The pavilion features both indoor glass enclosures and outdoor areas, with one panda in each section. Watching pandas munch on bamboo here is a must-see.
After exploring Seac Pai Van Park, I exited the park and followed the road uphill, passing through the Coloane Arboretum. The hiking trail is a forest path, with a map at the entrance. Coloane Hilltop Park, at an elevation of just 180 meters, is the next stop. Although the climb is not very high, the continuous ascent makes it quite tiring. The park has parking facilities, making it convenient for locals to drive here.
At the lookout point on Altinho de Ka Ho, you can see the Black Sand Beach below and the prominent Black Sand Dragon’s Claw Cape to the right. According to the hiking plan, the descent will lead to these spots.
Continuing downhill, I arrived at the Hac Sa Reservoir Country Park and Black Sand Beach. The facilities here are excellent, with stone tables, benches, barbecue pits, and water sources. The area is not crowded, attracting hikers and barbecue enthusiasts alike. It’s a great spot for weekend relaxation. I took a break under the shade, enjoyed some snacks, and felt the sea breeze—so refreshing! 😌
