Central Spain Tour ~ Madrid (Region)
The park is located in the heart of Madrid, with origins dating back to the reign of Philip IV when the Count-Duke of Olivares built the Buen Retiro Palace. During the reign of Charles III, additions such as the observatory and the Royal Porcelain Factory of Retiro were made. Under Ferdinand VII, the pier at the pond and the exhibition center zoo (Casa de Fieras) were constructed. The park's most notable attractions include the large pond with the monument to Alfonso XII, Velázquez's residence, the Crystal Palace, the Rose Garden (Rosaleda), and the flowerbeds, which feature one of Madrid's oldest trees—the Montezuma cypress (Taxodium mucronatum). In 1935, the park was declared a garden of historical and artistic value.
