Wat Phra That Doi Wao & the northernmost Skywalk in Thailand

Wat Phra That Doi Wao is stunning, with decorations blending Burmese cultural elements. The temple primarily uses purple flowers and colors, representing Chiang Rai province. The golden stupa shines brightly.

The name "Wao" in Northern Thai means "scorpion," as this hill was once home to many scorpions.

Inside the temple, you'll find a 150-meter-long Skywalk made of transparent glass, offering breathtaking views below. Those afraid of heights might need to reconsider, but the 360-degree panoramic view is worth it. You can see both Thailand and Myanmar, separated only by a river. The experience is thrilling and fun. At the end of the Skywalk, you'll encounter the Glass Castle, featuring various adorned Buddha statues, perfect for photography. It's truly worth the walk to the end.

How to get there: Since the temple is located on a hill with narrow and steep roads, you need to park your car near the Mae Sai-Tachileik border checkpoint. Then, walk into the left-hand alley of the Sai Lom Joy Market, where you'll find the temple's shuttle service marked by a large purple scorpion symbol.

💰 Average cost per person: Shuttle service costs 15 THB per person (round trip), taking you directly to Wat Phra That Doi Wao.

Skywalk ticket: 50 THB per person. Free admission for seniors, children, monks, and students.

Highly recommended! If you're visiting Mae Sai, this is a must-see destination!

At night, the Skywalk lights up beautifully, offering a different but equally stunning experience.

Location: Wiang Phang Kham Subdistrict, Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province
Opening hours: 7:00 AM - 8:00 PM
