[Nagano Prefecture] Japan's best autumn foliage and a one-of-a-kind view! Karasawa Cirque

"Karasawa Cirque" lies further into Kamikochi, Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture.

A cirque is a bowl-shaped glacial cirque created by a glacier as if it had been scooped out with a spoon.

Karasawa Cirque has a diameter of about 2km, making it one of the largest in Japan.

The bottom of the cirque is 2,300m above sea level, and the Hotaka mountain range, including Mt. Okuhotaka, towers before your eyes.

It is about 15km one way from the trailhead of Kamikochi to Karasawa Cirque, and although day trips are generally not allowed,
its autumn foliage is said to be the best in Japan, and every autumn, it attracts an overflowing number of climbers.

In addition to its overwhelming autumn foliage, Karasawa Cirque is famous for its morning glow lit up by the morning light, and the stars on the ground twinkling in the lights of tents at night are also spectacular!

This is a memorable mountain where I did my first solo camping in my life.

Karasawa Cirque (Karawasa-Curl in Japanese) is one of the major cirques in Japan, lies 15km away from Kamikochi highlands, Matsumoto City, Nagano prefecture, Japan. This is well-known as the best fall foliage of Japan for climbers, especially about Morgenrot meaning at dawn and a sea of tent illumination like a starry sky on the ground.

It was my first time to try solo-camping in my life on the mountain. I was really touched by every landscape of Karawasa Curl.
