Summer Trek Through Kamikochi’s Alpine Wonderland

The crisp morning air greeted me as I stepped off the bus at **Kamikochi**, a pristine highland valley nestled in the Northern Japan Alps. At 1,500 meters above sea level, the summer heat faded into a refreshing coolness, with the jagged peaks of the **Hotaka Mountains** reflected perfectly in the glassy waters of the **Azusa River**.

My hike began along the **Kappabashi Bridge**, the iconic wooden suspension bridge that serves as Kamikochi’s gateway. From there, I followed the well-maintained trail through lush forests of birch and larch, their leaves shimmering in the sunlight. The sound of the rushing river and occasional bird calls created a serene soundtrack.

A highlight was reaching **Taisho Pond**, where the still waters mirrored the majestic **Yakedake Volcano**. The pond was formed a century ago by a volcanic eruption, and the dead trees rising from its surface added an eerie beauty. Further along, I spotted wild **monkeys** foraging near the trail, completely unbothered by hikers.

By afternoon, I relaxed at the **Kamikochi Imperial Hotel**, sipping coffee on their terrace with an unbeatable mountain view. As the sun dipped behind the peaks, the valley took on a golden glow—a perfect end to a day in Japan’s untouched alpine paradise.
