Conquer the path to the top and see the magnificent view of the Japan Alps
For hikers who dream of seeing a panoramic view of the Japan Alps, walking to the top of Chogatake is one of the routes that must be pinned in your heart. Although it is a challenging route, the reward waiting at the top of the mountain is worth every drop of sweat.
For this trip, we started from Kamikochi, walking along the Azusa River through the Tokusawa Plain, which is the starting point of the real elevation climb. The first part of the route is quite steep and mostly in the forest. It requires a lot of physical and mental strength. But when we are out of the forest, all the tiredness disappears.
The image of the Alps standing tall in front of us is an unforgettable image, especially the view from the ridge stretching to the top of Chogatake. We can clearly see the sharp peak of the "Spear of Japan" or Mt. Yari.
We chose to stay overnight at Chogatake Hutte, a hut on the mountaintop that is open during the climbing season. (Around late April to early November) Waking up to the first rays of the day streaming down the mountaintops is an experience you can’t get anywhere else.
Hiking here is a journey to truly experience the grandeur of nature. If you’re physically fit and want to see one of the best views in Japan, Chogatake Hike won’t disappoint.
