Weekend Trip to Matsuyama

A Weekend Journey to Dogo Onsen & Nearby Villages

Though it was a short weekend, the itinerary covering Matsuyama and its nearby villages left a lasting impression, as if I had embarked on a long journey.

The trip began at Dogo Onsen Honkan. As the oldest hot spring in Japan, its majestic wooden architecture overwhelms visitors. The moment I immersed myself in the warm spring water, all tension melted away, and I couldn't help but think, "No wonder Dogo Onsen is so beloved." After the bath, a cup of matcha tea at a traditional tea house enriched the experience even further.

Leaving the Dogo Onsen area, I headed to the nearby villages. The traditional streets, blending white walls and black wooden structures, felt like a movie set. Walking through the alleys, I encountered small shops and old houses seamlessly connected, with even a single cute wooden chair outside becoming part of the picturesque scenery. Strolling through the quiet village, the sound of birds carried by the breeze offered a sense of tranquility rarely found in the city.

The reclining Buddha statue at the edge of the village was also impressive. Standing before the serene statue with its peaceful smile, I felt a sense of calm, allowing me to pause and take a breath amidst the hustle and bustle of the trip.

With the humble village scenery, magnificent nature, and the relaxing flow created by the hot springs, this weekend trip was more fulfilling than ever.

๐Ÿ‘‰ In summary, the hot spring bath at Dogo Onsen Honkan, the tranquil alley strolls in Matsuyama's nearby villages, and the serene moment before the reclining Buddha statue combined to create a short yet enriching journey. It was a satisfying itinerary for a weekend getaway, so much so that Iโ€™d love to visit again for its undeniable charm.
