Blue Bay Beach of Mauritius - For fans of snorkeling

This is listed as a top beach on Mauritius, and whilst it does have a lovely long white sandy beach, easy snorkelling and swimming areas and an amazing array of fish and marine life to see out in the bay, the beach needs better & improved infrastructure.

Most of the reviews claim there are toilets/washrooms and showers but at the time we visited the toilets were dirty and smelly with no running water, the outdoor showers (no changing areas that we could find) were not running. We do appreciate the island had got water shortages and we learned that the water services were often cut because of this, but to have no flushing toilets is not a pleasant experience. Hope they get this sorted soon.

There are a lot of beach vendors selling snorkelling and diving experiences. I'd recommend negotiating prices with them, as they start off very expensive. We did go out in a boat for snorkelling for just 1 hour. Whilst it's a beautiful bay to snorkel in, the number of boats sailing in and out of the beach with people diving and snorkelling around them is frightening. Safety is a big issue here, and there seems to be no control over the number of boats and routes they take to ensure swimmers safety.
