Meishan is a prefecture-level city in Sichuan Province, southwestern China.
It lies in the southwest of the Chengdu Plain, in the Sichuan Basin.
Neighboring cities/regions include Chengdu (to the north), Leshan, Ya’an, Ziyang, etc.
Population: about 2.95 million (2020 census), with ~1.23 million living in the built-up/urban area (Dongpo + Pengshan districts).
Area: ~7,100–7,200 square kilometres.
Named after Mt. Mei (“Mei” means “eyebrow” or “eyebrow‑shaped”) tied to local geography/history.
Famous for being the hometown of Su Shi (also called Su Dongpo), a prominent scholar, poet, and statesman during the Song dynasty. His former residence / memorial (“Three Su Memorial Hall”) is a notable cultural site.
