Songkou Ancient Town was once an important commercial town in Meizhou City, Guangdong. It was well-known both at home and abroad for having Songkou Port, the second largest inland port in Guangdong. It was also because of the convenient water transportation that it was the first stop for Hakka people to go to Southeast Asia, and it was deeply engraved with the imprint of Southeast Asian culture.
·
Residential buildings are mostly a combination of Chinese and Western styles, and many arcade buildings are still preserved. Although the ancient town has a history of thousands of years, it has long lost its former prosperity. There is a signpost here, marking the kilometers to international cities such as San Francisco, Cape Town, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Sydney, London, Toronto, etc. This is the distance between the Hakka capital Meizhou and the world.
·
Songjiang Hotel was once a crowded dock, and the river was called Meijiang. Nowadays, there are only a few statues of people standing on the ancient dock, some unloading cargo ashore, some running into the distance, and the billboards on the wall are very old.
·
With the change of the times, this Hakka town has gradually been forgotten by people. Perhaps many years later, only the "fried meatballs" are left on the stone pillars beside the street. I wonder if anyone still remembers the prosperity and taste of this place.
