Calanthe Art Café – Coffee, Satay & a Laksa Debate

Popped into Calanthe Art Café near Jonker Street and instantly loved the quirky, artsy vibe — think mismatched furniture, local artwork, and cozy corners that make you want to linger a little longer.

They’re famous for serving coffee from all 13 Malaysian states, which is pretty cool if you’re into trying different regional blends. I ordered the Melaka Coffee cos… we were in Melaka right?? But the food deserves a shout too — I tried their satay, and it was surprisingly good! Tender, smoky, and served with a rich peanut sauce.

As for the Calanthe Laksa, it was decent — creamy and flavorful in its own right — but I still prefer the Singapore version with cockles (see hum) for that briny kick. Personal taste, I guess!

Still, it’s a great spot to chill, fuel up, and soak in Melaka’s indie café culture.
