[Miyakojima, Okinawa] Just like the Great Barrier Reef! "Funausagibanata"

Irabu Island is sandwiched between Miyako Island and Shimoji Island.

There are many scenic spots in the northern part of the island, surrounded by cliffs, one of which is Funausagibanata.

"Funausagibanata" means "cliffs that see off ships" in Miyakojima dialect, and it is said that people used to see off people who departed from this place by ship.

The huge coral reef seen from here is like looking at the Great Barrier Reef.

By the way, the observation deck where the monument of the Grey-faced Hawk (a bird of the hawk family) was once installed has now been removed due to deterioration.

📍Location: Irabu, Miyakojima City, Okinawa Prefecture

🚗Access: About 11 minutes by car from Shimojishima Airport, about 30 minutes by car from Miyako Airport *No public transportation
