In the northern part of Kyoto, nestled by the Asou Sea, lies one of Japan's "Three Scenic Views"—the breathtaking Amanohashidate. Arriving early, I felt as though I had stepped into a natural landscape painting. Amanohashidate is a 3.6-kilometer-long sandbar adorned with shimmering waters on both sides and lush pine forests in the center. It's an idyllic route for walking, cycling, or even taking a boat ride.
The most iconic way to experience Amanohashidate is through "Matanozoki"! I took the cable car up to the Kasamatsu Park observation deck, where I joined others in bending over to view the sandbar upside down through my legs. Amazingly, this perspective truly makes it look like a "bridge to the sky," a sight of unparalleled grandeur.
The park also features heart-shaped decorations and wishing plaques, making it a perfect spot for couples, families, and anyone looking to capture memorable photos or make a wish. After exploring, don't forget to enjoy a cup of matcha or a snack at the mountaintop tea house while soaking in the scenery—it's a sublime experience.
