Greater Khingan Mountains|Autumn After a Year, Truly Breathtaking (Part 2)
Continue to experience the autumn wonders of the Greater Khingan Mountains!
For the first three days' itinerary, check out the previous post.
**Day 4:** Beiji Village (arrived on the afternoon of Day 3) → Wusuli Shoal → First Bend of the Heilongjiang River → Beihong Village → Mohe
🏷️ Compared to winter, autumn in Beiji Village offers fewer activities, but strolling around the village with friends, visiting the northernmost post office, and taking a boat ride along the Heilongjiang River to see the Russian border are quite relaxing. Plus, the sunset that day was stunning!!
At the First Bend of the Heilongjiang River, make sure to climb the 999-step staircase—the panoramic view from the top is awe-inspiring.
We got lucky that day when a local villager drove us to the other side of the bend, where we were the only ones there. Chasing the sunset was an incredible experience (see photos p7-p8).
**Day 5:** Mohe → Yikesama → Crossing the No-Man’s Land → Qiqian
🏷️ Most of today’s journey is on the road, passing by iconic national border gates for photo ops. The highlight? The *Right Bank of the Argun River*—a place 99% of travelers miss. Only a few households live here, and accommodations are scarce, so book ahead!!! Signal is poor, and there’s no Wi-Fi, but it’s the perfect chance to unplug and immerse yourself in nature. In the evening, hike up the mountain to chase the sunset, stargaze in the village at night, and wake up early for the morning mist.
**Day 6:** Qiqian → Moerdaoga Forest → Taiping Village → Eagle’s Beak → Enhe
🏷️ The train winds through the autumn forest, but there’s only one notable stop for photos. The scenery is similar to what you’ve seen along the way, so it’s up to personal preference.
Originally, we planned to stay in Shiwei but found it too commercialized and lacking charm, so we chose Enhe instead. It’s a tiny village—10 RMB for a horse-drawn carriage ride will take you around the whole place in no time. However, unwinding at a Hobbit-themed pub in the evening is quite cozy.
**Tips:** Aside from the small villages, much of the scenery and time on these days are spent on the road. Many "attractions" pale in comparison to the views along the journey.
