【Tasmania】Cradle Mountain (1 Day)

This time, we visited Cradle Mountain, which is about a 2-hour drive from Launceston, the nearest major town.

We stayed in Mole Creek, a region located between Launceston and Cradle Mountain.

⭐️ Mole Creek Cabins
💰 Price per person: $165 (The cabin costs $330, so if three people stay, it’s $110 per person)
🏖️ Atmosphere/Facilities: Maximum capacity is 3 people. The cabin has a single bed and a queen bed, but there are no partitions or doors inside.

The cabin was very clean, and the view from the room was fantastic.

⭐️ Wandering Trout (Photos 4 and 5)
A 3-minute drive takes you to the town of Mole Creek. There’s a brewery called Wandering Trout, so we decided to visit the pub. Unfortunately, the canned beer for takeaway was already sold out, and only tap beer was available.

⭐️ Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre

Finally, the long-awaited Cradle Mountain! To enter Tasmania’s national parks, you need an entry ticket. Since we had already purchased the entry ticket for our car, we only bought shuttle bus tickets at the visitor center to explore the park. The shuttle bus ticket costs $15 per person.

We arrived at the visitor center around 11 AM and headed first to Dove Lake, the furthest point from the visitor center.

We heard that reaching the summit of Cradle Mountain (Cradle Mountain Summit) takes about 8 hours round trip. Since we didn’t have hiking boots and were wearing running shoes, we decided to skip the summit and hike around the lake instead.

Although we initially planned to just walk around the lake, we felt like climbing a bit and took the Hansons Peak route, which led us to the Dove Lake Circuit. Unexpectedly, this included climbing and descending steep cliffs, and it took us 4 hours to complete the circuit around the lake. Who would’ve thought we’d be climbing cliffs in running shoes?

If you only plan to walk around the lake, it should take about an hour.

If you plan to climb even a little at Cradle Mountain, make sure to wear hiking boots. 🤣
