Watching sunrise over Mount Bromo was one of the most epic moments of my life. I arrived before dawn at a nearby viewpoint, and as the sky brightened, the volcanic caldera slowly emerged—smoke rising from Bromo’s crater, surrounded by a sea of clouds and other peaks in the distance. Later, I crossed the “Sea of Sand” on foot and climbed the steep stairway to Bromo’s rim, where the sulphuric crater hissed beneath me. It’s raw, elemental beauty—like standing on the edge of the Earth. Combine it with nearby Ijen for a full volcanic adventure.
