The Nanjing University History Museum and Digital History Museum, both under construction since May 1999, are located in the former Nanjing University Library (formerly the Jinling University Library). They have a usable area of 1,400 square meters and an exhibition area of approximately 1,000 square meters. The museum's name was inscribed by the centenarian Gu Yuxiu, former president of National Central University.
The University History Museum is divided into five exhibition areas: "A Century of University History," "Nanjing University Today," "A Century of Talents," "Multimedia Presentations," and "Gift Hall." These areas showcase over 1,600 photographs from different periods of Nanjing University's history, over 700 historical materials, objects, and models, nearly 100 videos, and over 200 gifts and inscriptions donated by alumni from home and abroad for the university's centennial celebration.
The Nanjing University History Museum and its Digital History Museum, both under planning and construction since May 1999, finally opened on the occasion of Nanjing University's centennial celebration, thanks to the strong support of university leadership, faculty, students, alumni both domestically and internationally, and organizations such as the Jiangsu Branch of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, the China International Construction Corporation, and Beihai Yinhe High-Tech Co., Ltd. Over the past three years, members of the University Archives and related departments have traveled extensively throughout China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, collecting nearly 5,000 historical materials, artifacts, and photographs from alumni both domestically and internationally. They also transcribed over 200 videos of major events and notable alumni achievements from CCTV, Jiangsu TV, and the University's Educational Technology Center, significantly enriching the Archives' collection.
The subtropical monsoon climate is characterized by a subtle fragrance of greenery. The lush trees on both sides of the road slightly conceal the Nanjing University History Museum. You need to walk from the other side of the road to see the solemn and awe-inspiring Nanjing University History Museum. It is suitable for travel in all seasons.
A graduation diploma from Liangjiang Normal School, and the text "Practice is the sole criterion for testing truth" are among the items on display. Standing before the museum, touching the stone walls, the cracked and mossy stone tablets add a touch of antiquity, heightening the sense of time and experience. As a century-old prestigious university, the weight of its history washes over you.
