Most people will choose to get off at Daimonzaka and walk up to Nachi Taisha Shrine. For those who don't want to walk this 1 km uphill, I suggest you refer to my route.
1. Take bus No. 31 from Kii-Katsuura Station and get off at the last stop, Nachiyama
2. Nachi Taisha Shrine→Seigantoji Temple→Three-story Pagoda
3. Walk downhill through the forest to the Hitaki Shrine, where you’ll find a waterfall
There are two options when you come out of Hitaki Shrine
(1) If you don’t want to walk, go to the bus stop in front of the entrance [Nachi Falls] and take the bus back to Kii-Katsuura
(2) If you want to experience the Kumano Kodo Trail, walk along the road for 10 minutes back to the terminal where you got off. Walk down towards Daimonzaka for about 15 minutes and you will see a road exit, which is the Kumano Kodo Trail bus stop. Then take the bus back to Kii-Katsuura.
Reference time: 13:00-17:00 (Kumano Nachi Taisha Shrine) 7:30-16:30
Public transportation: Take bus No. 31 of the Nachiyama Line from JR Kii-Katsuura Station and get off at Nachiyama Station (about 25 minutes)
Must-visit
1. The triple pagoda and waterfall in the same frame
2. The large camphor tree next to Nachi Taisha Shrine
A forest town on the Kumano Kodo
