Kameyamashachu is Japan's first trading company, founded in 1865 by Sakamoto Ryoma and 20 of his comrades with the support of the Satsuma Domain and the wealthy Nagasaki merchant Ozone family.

They rented a private house that had been used as a residence for Kameyama pottery craftsmen and used it as their base of operations, so they combined the place name Kameyama and the word shachu, which means friends, to call themselves Kameyamashachu.

The dilapidated building was restored and has been open to the public since 2009 as the Nagasaki Kameyamashachu Memorial Museum.

Items related to Ryoma, such as replicas of his boots, his pistol, and photos of the Kameyamashachu patriots, are on display.
