Nagasaki - Megane Bridge

Megane Bridge, located on Nakashima River in Nagasaki City, is a famous stone bridge and one of Japan's oldest arched stone bridges. Built in 1634, it was designed by the Chinese monk Mokusu Nyōjo to provide access to the nearby Kōfuku-ji Temple. The bridge earned its affectionate nickname "Megane Bridge" (Eyeglasses Bridge) because its double arches and their reflection in the water resemble a pair of eyeglasses.

Not only is the bridge aesthetically pleasing, but it also holds significant historical and cultural value, having been designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. Constructed entirely from stone, it showcases the exceptional craftsmanship of the era. Despite suffering damage from multiple floods over the years, it has been carefully restored and remains one of Nagasaki City's iconic landmarks.

The bridge is adorned with charming stone carvings and plaques on both sides, and the riverside promenade is well-maintained, making it perfect for a leisurely stroll. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom along the riverbanks, adding to its charm and making it a beloved part of daily life for locals.
