A visit to the old Ringo Residence at Nagasaki Glover Gardens reveals a quiet elegance—it's not opulent, but traces of history are palpable in every corner. Built in the late 19th century, it was once the home of British merchant Frederick Ringo, who played a significant role in the development of modern Nagasaki through trade, shipping, and even journalism.
The building cleverly blends Western and Japanese styles, boasting spacious balconies, ancient wooden beams, and traditional Japanese tiles. Wandering through the residence, we discovered meticulously preserved rooms filled with vintage furniture, old photographs, and subtle details that bring the space to life. You can almost imagine Ringo entertaining guests while gazing out over Nagasaki Bay. Nearby is the prayer fountain, the Prayer Spring, and a relaxing garden filled with colorful lanterns.
